Cheese and Potato Bake recipe Ingredients
- 115g strong cheddar cheese
- 1 egg
- freshly ground pepper
- 30g butter
- 150ml double cream
- 675g medium/large potatoes
- 1 large onion
Set the oven to 180C/350F/Gas Mark 4. Peel the potatoes and slice them finely. Put them in a bowl of water.
Slice the onion finely,melt the butter in a saucepan over a low heat and cook the onions until slightly soft.
Grate the cheese,butter the baking dish and spread a later of sliced potato on the bottom. Spoon some onions on the top. see also : Homemade Cheese Biscuit Recipe
Add salt and pepper,then sprinkle with cheese. Carry on layering the potatoes,onions and cheese,finishing with potatoes.
Beat the egg into the cream with a fork. Pour it over the potatoes and sprinkle the rest of the cheese over the top.
Bake the potatoes for about 90 minutes. Take out when it is gold and bubbling to test. Test them with a knife to check that they are cooked all the way through.
